Life

George of Attalia, also called George of Krini, was a Greek Orthodox new martyr who suffered during the period of the Greek Revolution and is commemorated on June 25. According to tradition, he was born in the province of Attaleia (Antalya) in Asia Minor to wealthy Christian parents, but as an infant he was taken by the regional governor, renamed Mehmed, and raised within an Ottoman household, in time marrying the governor's daughter.

Having learned of his Christian birth, he returned to the faith and openly confessed it during a confrontation with his former father-in-law. He was imprisoned, tortured, and put to death at Krini in Asia Minor in 1823 for refusing to renounce Christianity.
