The Holy Hieromartyr Fructuosus, Bishop of Tarragona, and his Deacons Augurius and Eulogius
Life
Fructuosus, Bishop of Tarragona in Spain, together with his deacons Augurius and Eulogius, were martyred in the year 259 during the persecution under the emperors Valerian and Gallienus. They are commemorated on January 21.
By the accounts the bishop was arrested with his two deacons on Sunday, the sixteenth of January, in the year 259, having already retired to his chamber. After their confession of Christ they were condemned, and by the tradition they were burned alive in the amphitheatre of Tarragona.
They are among the most anciently venerated martyrs of the Church in Spain, their memory preserved from an early date in the acts of their martyrdom.
